The result of the dough making, filling and frying process is a sweet, soft and tender confectionery that is perfect to be consumed on its own or with a cup of tea or coffee. We have a perfect homemade donut recipe that we will share with you below:

Ingredients:

  • All purpose flour, 4 cups.
  • Baking powder, 2 teaspoons.
  • Salt, ¼ teaspoon.
  • Whole eggs, 2.
  • Granulated sugar, 1-¼ cups.
  • Vanilla, 1 teaspoon.
  • Whole milk, 2/3 cup.
  • Melted butter, ¼ cup.
  • Shortening or vegetable oil (as preferred) for deep-frying.
  • Icing or coating as preferred.

How It’s Made:

There are several steps and separate stages, make sure to perform each of the separately and as instructed during the course of this article for best results:

1: Prepare the Butter:

  • Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl and rest it on the side, combine eggs, vanilla and sugar in a separate bowl. Beat the eggs mixture with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 3 minutes or until it thickens up. In another bowl, combine the melted butter and milk nicely.
  • Add flour and milk mixtures to the egg mixture one by one while still beating on low speed until everything is combined smoothly. Cover the dough and chill it for about 2 to 4 hours.

2: Roll the Dough:

  • Get on a smooth surface (preferably a countertop) and flour it nicely. Roll the dough to about half an inch thickness. Avoid any extra flour to stir in as it can make the donuts heavy and dry.

3: Cut the Dough:

  • The best practice is to get a 2-1/2-inch donut cutter and cut the dough into rings with it. Spray the cutter with flour when starting and between each cut to not let the dough stick to it.
  • If you mixed the advised proportions, you should be able to get 16 donut cuts from the dough with 16 donut holes in them.

4: Get Frying:

  • Place the donut nicely and smoothly into preheated oil in a fryer using a long-handled slotted spoon. Fry for about 2 to 3 minutes or until the top surface gets golden brown while turning them only once.
  • Remove the donuts from the oil with the slotted spoon ensuring all the oil gets rinsed out as well.
  • Drain them further on paper towels and repeal the process for the remaining donuts until all are done and then cool them off slightly.

5: Apply the Icing or Coating:

This is optional and subject to preference. If you prepared chocolate, fruits or any other icing or coating for them, apply them while they are still warm and not completely cooled off. Glaze them as well if that’s what you prefer at this stage.
